Three Overlooked Secrets for Developing a Successful Home Based Business
Millions begin creating a home based business with little desire for a job as the main vehicle for living free. They plug into what is hopefully a good company with good products, and set the view to building a large group. It’s one of the purest forms of free-enterprize.
The rewards are plenty- freedom, flexibility, residual income, no boss- and it goes on from there. One has to wonder about it. If it’s so attractive, why do so many fail to get even half-way up the mountain so they can enjoy the view?
As someone who has worked (and played) with a home-office base for over a decade, I’m going to point out three things, that, if mastered, or at least managed, will get your successful home-based business results graph going in a strong direction. If this is what you’re up to, please don’t skim over these, but rather, take a good hard look at which one(s) have been tripping you up- or are most likely to get you off the track you set out on to begin with. There are other secrets, but here’s three that are often overlooked.
1) Your written word is your new boss. Yes, you have the freedom to do anything you want, and you don’t need to use a daily planner of any kind if you don’t want such a thing. If you have no daily checklist of things that are top priority, you probably have little idea of the daily actions that you are making intentional. CEO’s don’t get there without a daily action plan and you are the CEO of your business. It’s a lot like throwing the bowling ball down the lane in a complete fog, and all you know is whether you heard the ball hit the gutter, or some pins smash. Progress will not be defined if you don’t write things down with the pen or by typing each day.
2) Hone in on the actions that bring about highest long term results. Keep yourself from getting lost in little things and deluding yourself into thinking worthwhile effort is being done. Stay away from that pitfall. An ant on a figure eight track may walk for hours, but by day’s end he’s still going in circles. Stand back from your plan for enough time to see what which activities have or will do that with your progress. Look at your schedule and do a quick check on which items would cause 80% of your results. Take a good look at how much of the day was used with top priority items, and how much was not?
3) Create accountability where it’s warranted. This can make or break things. Some need a lot, others need less and you’ll need to be honest. Has your day gone by, only to see that important things weren’t getting done? Learning time. Perhaps you can tie in your main tasks with a daily reward of some kind. Perhaps you can tell someone that TV is off limits to you unless X is done. Use your imagination when looking for solutions with regard to this. What would be workable for you. Setting a brief appointment with a friend or other person can help some.
OK, it’s confession time for me. (And may this further the learning for you). I put off writing this article for days and let other things take over. At this moment I’m kneeling on two couch pillows as I write. Why, you ask? This afternoon, I wrote in my day-book, that I couldn’t sit in my nice office chair until I finished this article first.
A little crazy? Maybe. It comes down to whether a thing works or not. I’m now taking liberty to make up a Chinese proverb, - and I’m even close to Chinese. “Better to lose comfort and go forward, than sit too long and grow stuck”.” I’m referring to being stuck in a business going nowhere. Promise yourself you’ll do what it takes. In just a moment, I’m going to reclaim the grand office chair. What about your CEO? What are you willing to do to develop a successful home based business?

It’s hard to find one of the top earners online who is also 1) a great teacher, 2) has created highly effective videos (constantly expanding) that connect the dots with virtually any online aspect one could want to learn. For many, it is worth far more than an advanced diploma and takes a lot less time.
